In this episode of The Ill Noise Business Playbook, I sit down with Laurie Rodic of Angelic Roots to talk about a journey that started with burnout and ultimately became something much bigger.
After years of working 60- and 70-hour weeks in healthcare while raising two young children, Laurie knew something needed to change. She began setting boundaries and searching for balance through meditation, nature, and eventually Reiki. What started as a personal healing journey was never intended to become a business, but the changes Laurie experienced inspired a vision for a place where others could explore their own paths toward well-being.
Ten years later, Angelic Roots has grown into a crystal shop and wellness community with two Oak Creek locations, treatment and classroom spaces, a management team, and 16 practitioners.
Laurie and I talk about how she created an environment that welcomes everyone—including people who may be skeptical of Reiki, crystals, or energy work. With a background in healthcare and laboratory science, Laurie understands the questions people have and encourages them to explore what resonates with them.
We also get into the realities of entrepreneurship. Laurie shares how Angelic Roots adapted during COVID while an expected nine-month renovation stretched to roughly 18 months. Online sales and live videos became not only a way to keep the business moving, but also a source of connection for people during an isolating time.
Laurie talks about authenticity, collaboration, learning to delegate, empowering her management team, and why entrepreneurs have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.
What stood out to me is that Laurie doesn’t view healing—or building a meaningful business—as something with a finish line. Her story shows how authenticity, adaptability, community, trust, and time can turn a personal transformation into something that positively impacts many others.
